Aruba Networks making progress with new customer acquisitions

Aruba Networks Investor Relations

According to RBC Capital Markets, Aruba is making progress with new customer acquisitions.

RBC Capital Markets Managing Director - Mark Sue commented to yours truly:

Mark Sue"Aruba's results this Thursday evening may show further signs of stabilization and we're expecting encouraging results as the wireless vendor closes out its fiscal year."

"Revenues may grow 10% sequentially and reach $47.0M vs. our printed expectations of $46.5M."

"Non-GAAP results may be closer to break even vs. our estimate of a loss of ($0.01) as the company exercised tight expense control."

"Considering, multiple compression in the group nonetheless, our price target moves to $8."

"Rating unchanged at Sector Perform."

"Aruba will be entering a seasonally weaker quarter and may point to mixed overall dynamics offset by market share gains as the company enters the fall."

"With a book to bill greater than 1.0, Aruba may provide revenue guidance in a range of $48M to $51M vs. the current consensus of $49M."

"We're not of the view that Aruba may provide full year guidance considering the limited industry visibility."

"Our FY09 estimates calls for 16% YoY top line growth to $204M and incorporates the AirWave acquisition."

"Aruba is executing well in certain verticals such as federal, healthcare, education, and industrial."

"Checks show continued challenges in retail and manufacturing however."

"Checks also indicate firming enterprise trends in North America and no increased deterioration."

"Having said that, the urgency may still not be there when it comes to broad based wireless projects."

"No change was observed in the competitive environment in terms of pricing so we expect Aruba to reiterates its gross margin range of 65-68%."

"Good mix despite Aruba's reliance on two tier distribution may keep margins near the upper end of this range in our view."

"Aruba is making progress with new customer acquisitions, a good sign for future growth opportunities."

"Aruba is also benefiting for the ramp in the wireless N upgrade (mostly with education verticals), ahead of the formal ratification of the standards."

"Aruba's current families of products are software upgradeable to N."

"The situation is solidifying for Aruba Networks and the company seems to be improving its execution across expectations which were reset earlier this year."

"We look for additional consistency as Aruba expands its customer base and further drives its wireless solutions to its end customers."

"Aruba's shares currently trade at 2.1x our CY09 revenue estimate net cash."

"Our price target is $8 and is between 3.0x our CY09E revenues net cash and 26x our CY09E EPS."

"Although current group multiple is 20x, we believe the above average top line growth rate for the company may justify a higher PE multiple."

"Impediments to our price target include competitive pressures, pricing concerns, macro weakness in IT spending and execution risk."

Cisco networking academy students installed Cisco gear at Democratic National Convention

Cisco - Democratice National Convention - Westwood College

Eight lucky Westwood College Cisco Networking Academy students worked alongside Cisco engineers to install more than 700 voice over IP (VoIP) telephones, a wireless service canopy and Cisco routers and switches that have transformed Denver's Pepsi Center into a global hub for collaboration and communication as this week's host for the Democratic National Convention.

Westwood College Cisco Networking Academy Students:

Westwood College Cisco Networking Academy Students

Clay Chandler"This is a-once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity for our Computer Network Management students," said Clay Chandler - national program advisor for the Cisco Networking Academy at Westwood College.

"Most people take for granted that the telephone, Internet access and secure data networks are always available, but in fact, the technologies behind those tools are extraordinarily complex."

"The fact that Westwood students were selected by Cisco after a rigorous selection process demonstrates how capable our students are."

The eight students will work before, during and after the convention to install Cisco solutions, conduct monitoring of those solutions, and staff the I.T. help desk.

Their work will allow political reporters and bloggers to post the latest news from the convention floor to the Internet in real time as well as provide the communications backbone for thousands of conventioneers, delegates and political operatives.

-----------------------------------------

The Democratic National Convention Committee is promising that the 2008 Democratic National Convention will be a technological marvel.

From a technical standpoint, people around the world will view Senator Barack Obama’s historic nomination with the help of the most advanced technology available.

FREE Cisco tools: Lancope NetFlow bandwidth calculator

Cisco Tools

Historically, NetFlow had a "performance issue" and consequently was not often enabled on Cisco routers.

For example, early versions of NetFlow could not handle the number of flows in case of DDoS attacks and the network would melt down.

Since then Cisco has dramatically improved NetFlow and these reasons are no longer valid.

Today’s NetFlow is a light weight, scalable and cost effective means of monitoring the network without having to deploy costly probes.

Whether or not you’ve bought into the concept of NetFlow for the following capabilities, NetFlow is a low-risk, low cost, high yield way of gathering visibility across your networks.

---------------------------------------------

Introducing the newest addition to Cisco Tools:

Lancope NetFlow Bandwidth Calculator

A free utility that helps you gauge the impact of enabling NetFlow on your network.

Just input your flow format and the rate per second/minute, and this utility will quickly calculate the network impact of enabling NetFlow from your routers and switches.

---------------------------------------------

Benefits of using NetFlow:

1. Investigate threshold exceptions.
2. Find top talkers on your network.
3. Compare application usage patterns.
4. Identify applications on your network.
5. Detect anomalous activity and policy violations by user.
6. Understand bandwidth utilization and growth to plan for future capacity requirements.

Carrier spending lulls are creating headwinds for JDSU

JDSU Announces Fiscal 2008 Fourth Quarter and Year End Results

According to RBC Capital Markets, carrier spending lulls are creating some headwinds for JDSU.

RBC Capital Markets Managing Director - Mark Sue commented to yours truly:

Mark Sue"Forward earnings variability remains high for JDSU as evidenced by yesterday's results."

"Revenues of $391M were near the midpoint of the company's guidance range yet the mix of business was not what was expected creating a drop in margins and a subsequent EPS miss: $0.07 vs. the consensus of $0.10."

"Guidance despite a book to bill greater than 1.0 is not too inspiring either with revenues of $378M to $394M vs. the consensus of $400M."

"Including optical component deferrals (supply constraints) into the December quarter, guidance would've been $10M higher."

"At the moment, the stock is trading at 15X our adjusted CY09 earnings of $0.80."

"Considering the lumpiness of the business and some near term wireline capex pauses, we're maintaining our Sector Perform rating."

"JDSU is aiming to streamline its operations to help the company achieve its longer term operating margin targets."

"CommTest revenues were $171M growing just 1% sequentially with some spending caution expressed by tier two carriers."

"JDSU is also expecting flattish cable carrier spending this year offset by growth in the fiber segment."</
