July 8 Microsoft Patches

I lost Internet access after the patches were installed. My hardware connections checked out fine.

Happened to me too. Apparently there's a conflict between the new patch, KB951748, and ZoneAlarm. Uninstall that patch and everything works -- at least for me. And, of course, turn off Automatic Updates.

Are you stupid?

Read your headline again asshat. "None Critical"??? Yah, a DNS spoofing exploit isn't critical. You need to find a new career.

Lost internet access also

I also lost internet access, and resorted to "uninstall KB951748 & KB951978". Access returned. Tried installing again, same problem. Uninstalled again & placed a "block" on these two in Windows Update until more is known about this. Fortunately , I have several computers, otherwise with only one computer , you're stuck.

Microsoft marked none of the patches as critical. The author of this article is relating the information Microsoft provided. IF YOU READ THE ARTICLE, Microsoft has said that some of the patches should be TREATED as critical BY SOME PEOPLE, "asshat".

Internet Acceess Stopped by Tuesday's Update for most ZA custome

0

If a ZA customer not getting Internet Web access after Tuesday's Update shuts down ZA, they will find there are several options to fix the issues.
1. Do a restore (except auto updates will just update again).
2. Select Firewall Tab in ZA and change Secruity Zone from High to Medium. Others can now see your ports. Turn on XP's Firewall.
3. Select Firewall Tab, then select custom, select Internet Zone Tab, select Allow Outgoing TCP packets. Enter ports 25,80,443,465. Make sure box is checked and Apply. These ports address mail (secure and non secure, web access (secure and non secure). Add other ports if you need them.

After doing one of the three, I tried all of them and selected number 3, wait for Microsoft/ZA to announce a fix and install it backing off (un-selecting solution 3).

thanks for the list of ports

Thanks for mentioning the port numbers. I forgot about port 443 and who knows how long it would have taken me to realize why a few of my connections were being filter. Thanks again.

new patch sucks!

My computer began spewing battery acid after installing the patch and severely injured 7 members of my family.
It then exploded.

Lost access

Well once again Micro$oft owes me for another 2 hours of wasted time while I chased down my lack of internet connectivity. Finally found it when I removed Security Update for Windows XP (KB951748). Time to turn off Automatic Updates. I would rather take my chances with the hackers than be sure that Microsoft will screw me again.

"new patch vacuumed well"

Your comment made me laugh.
Good job.

As usual, MS has their heads

As usual, MS has their heads up their collective arses. My Vista machine is showing 5 updates (OK, one is “recommended,” not “important”). However, after the mandatory reboot, my XP machine wants to install (for the zillionth time) the malicious software removal tool. Where was that sucker last night??

Thanks for the ZA info, guys. All my home computers are running it and fortunately I don’t allow automatic installation.
